Read to Me Privacy Policy Last updated: 27 October 2026

This policy explains how Read to Me, an Android app for listening to EPUB books and saved articles, handles information. It applies to the Read to Me app specifically. For information about this website and other services, see the general Privacy Policy.

Who is responsible for your data

Read to Me is developed by Xavi Esteve, an individual based in Spain. For privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected] or use the contact page.

Information kept on your device

Read to Me does not require an account and has no developer-operated server or cloud sync. The app stores your imported EPUBs, saved article text and source links, covers, reading position, language and voice settings, and downloaded voice models in the app’s private storage on your device. It does not send those books, article text, covers, settings, or listening progress to me.

Speech is generated on your device using the downloaded Supertonic voice model or a compatible offline Android text-to-speech voice. Read to Me does not record microphone audio or send book text to a remote speech service.

Your local library and settings remain until you remove them, clear Read to Me’s app storage, or uninstall the app. Android backup is disabled for Read to Me.

Saving a web article

If you share a web link to Read to Me, the app requests that page so it can extract the article. This request happens only after you share the link. Plain HTTP links are upgraded to HTTPS, and the request may follow redirects to another website.

The website receiving the request can see the URL you shared, your device’s IP address, your language preference, and ordinary technical request information. If a link contains identifying information, such as an account name or a one-time token in its address, that information is sent to the website as part of the URL. Do not share links containing information you do not want that website to receive. Read to Me does not send browser cookies or sign-in credentials with the request.

The page is downloaded and its article text is extracted by Read to Me on your device. The extracted text and the source link are stored in your local library. The website that receives the request handles the request information under its own privacy policy; I do not receive it.

Downloading an offline voice

If you choose to download the optional Supertonic voice model, Android’s Download Manager requests the model archive from GitHub. GitHub and its delivery providers may receive your IP address, the requested file, and ordinary technical request information. No book text, article text, or speech audio is included in this download request. The model is installed in Read to Me’s private storage and speech generation runs locally. See GitHub’s privacy statement for its handling of request information.

App services and sharing

Read to Me does not include advertising, analytics, account, or crash-reporting services. It does not keep a web browsing history. A link is requested only when you share it to save an article, and a voice model is downloaded only when you choose to install it.

If you use Android’s file picker or share sheet, Android and the storage or sharing app you choose handle their own access and privacy practices. Websites you choose to open from an article follow their own privacy policies.

Messages to support

If you email support or use the contact page, I receive the information you choose to include, such as your email address and message, so I can reply. Those messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your request, subject to legal obligations.

Other organisations

Read to Me itself has no backend service. The external organisations involved in the app’s network features are the website you choose when sharing an article link and GitHub and its delivery providers when you download a voice model. Android’s operating system and any file or sharing providers you select also apply their own privacy practices.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and Spanish data protection law, you can request access to, correction or deletion of personal information I hold about you, ask me to restrict or stop its use, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Since Read to Me keeps your library on your device, I cannot access or delete that local data for you. You can remove books in the app or clear its storage in Android settings. For requests about information you provided to me, email [email protected]. You can complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the AEPD, or your local authority.

California residents can request access or deletion of personal information they provided directly to me by emailing [email protected]. I do not sell personal information through Read to Me.

Children

Read to Me is a general reading tool and is not designed for children under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires). I do not knowingly collect children’s personal data through the app. If you believe a child has sent personal information to me, contact me and I will address the request.

Security

Books, saved articles, settings, and installed voice models are kept in Android’s private app storage. Network requests for article pages and voice downloads use HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but I take reasonable steps to protect the information I handle.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the app’s features or data handling change. The date above shows when it was last revised.
